A meditation on impermanence, Eric Hove's Strange Friend softly opens itself to the possibilities and adventures in the quotidian. His poems are peppered with a cast of friends and loved ones—specific and archetypal—who join the narrator as he explores the quiet, memorable moments of life. Each poem is stylish and succinct, giving us a glimpse into a world of everyday enlightenments.

Faith

You haven't lived until you've climbed on to the ledge
of the pedestrian bridge spanning the northbound
highway and pressed the whole of your weight forward
against the chain link fence enclosing you from harm.

This is the faith I put in even unfamiliar municipalities:
someone was paid to plan for someone like me
and assessed the tensile strength accordingly.
