From Nigerian poet, Chiwenite Onyekwelu, Exiled is a collection of poems filled with raw emotion. It is about a man coming to terms with violence, grief, and loss. Exiled opens with a poem remembering loved ones as the narrator takes a late night stroll through his city. He reckons with their absence, acknowledging the pain of the empty spaces and yet, “inside, his music still plays.” This emotional dichotomy exists throughout the collection as the narrator pushes against the violence in his life and rejects it for something different, something more true, ending with: "I want to reach out, but instead of a slaughter, let me reflect light.”

This is Chiwenite Onyekwelu’s debut chapbook collection.
