Exiled by Chiwenite Onyekwelu

From Nigerian poet, Chiwenite Onyekwelu, Exiled is a collection of poems filled with raw emotion. It is about a man coming to terms with violence, grief, and loss. Exiled opens with a poem remembering loved ones as the narrator takes a late night stroll through his city.  He reckons with their absence, acknowledging the pain of the empty spaces and yet, “inside, his music still plays.” This emotional dichotomy exists throughout the collection as the narrator pushes against the violence in his life and rejects it for something different, something more true ending with: "I want to reach out, but instead of a slaughter, let me reflect light.”

This is Chiwenite Onyekwelu’s debut chapbook collection.

NEW RELEASE

My Own Private Idaho by Keegan Lawler

Set among the pines and firs of "flyover country," Keegan Lawler's My Own Private Idaho explores the emotions and experiences of growing up queer in small-town Idaho. In four memoir-essays, Lawler engages film and music as foils for his own childhood endeavors, peering back at the life of a small-town boy through a self-actualized lens. Together, these essays are a poignant tribute to a place, its people, and a young queer boy yearning to belong.

Jenny, 52 by Susan Montag

In Jenny, 52, the titular character launches into the dating scene post mid-life divorce. In a new apartment in the heart of a river city, Jenny isn’t necessarily looking for love; she’s looking for connection. She is also a writer and her novel is about a woman named Jenny living in similar circumstances but during a worldwide pandemic. Written in the early days of Covid-19, Montag perfectly captures that surreal time when the greatest thing we had in common was our separation and the greatest temptation was to pretend it wasn’t happening. Jenny, 52 is brazen, funny, and profoundly reflective— a superb read.

Attention Visitors Attention by Moheb Soliman

In this collection of postcards, poet Moheb Soliman takes readers on a journey around the Great Lakes to experience poetry in place. Beginning in 2014, Moheb began placing over 40 of his poems in the very landscapes that provided inspiration. This unbound book is a curated representation of Moheb’s expansive project: Attention Visitors Attention.
