Poems in Kurt Westley’s Basho’s Cormorant are a reconstruction of the Japanese haiku remaining true to the focus on the elements of nature. The movement of nature within this chapbook is formed from the ever constant imagery and presence of nature in daily life. The word choice is simply constructed with the intent to draw from the reader’s personal connection to the natural world. From windshield bugs to snowy branches, Basho’s Cormorant is a reminder of the natural world that surrounds us during the rush of our everyday lives.
